To the folks in Alabama...

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

In spite of the damage it is going to cause the entire state, both in actual dollars and in reputation (as if Alabama needs any more national embarassments), I am enjoying watching the morons running the Jefferson County Commission trying to navigate their way out of the mess they have created - all while completely ignoring reality . It really is sort of a miniature version of what is going on in Washington - this is what happens when you continuously put people in positions of power and authority that do not have the intelligence or the decision making abilities to deal with the problems they must face - eventually, they will run it into the ground. How long it takes depends on the size of the budget. The bigger the budget the longer it takes. But it happens.

Anyway, I am especially enjoying the complete logical breakdown that seems to have gripped the entire Commission. They do not have the money to pay their bills, they refuse to increase sewer/water rates, and they refuse to cut spending - but insist that they know what is best and how to handle the situation. Riiiiight...since it was their wonderful management and decision making that has led the county to the footsteps of the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history!

Only a government can have a monopoly - ON A NECESSITY - and still go bankrupt! Does the postal service come to mind? If you absolutely HAD to have a document at a certain address at a certain time would you use the post office to send it or FedEx/UPS? Anybody ready for a government to control medical care?
